David Bowie

First, he changed his name.
Then, he changed everything.
He changed his look. His style.
The songs he wrote and how he sang them.
He changed what we thought a pop star should be. Or even could be.
Not occasionally but constantly.
And just when we thought we understood him, he’d change again.
From Major Tom to Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane to the Thin White Duke.
Every new character, revealing something different, something extraordinary.
And in doing so, he changed the rules of the game.
He was the musician who became an artist.
The film star who found a home in the theatre.
The mime artist who spoke prolifically.
The painter who became a poet.
His home wasn’t one place. It was any place. Wherever he could give a voice to his lifelong curiosity about art in all of its many shapes and forms.
And perhaps his long journey of self-discovery reflects something profound about us all:
As Bowie himself said ‘I don’t make changes to confuse anyone. I’m just searching. That’s what causes me to change. I’m searching for myself’.
